Small Mouth Sounds asks how we address life’s biggest questions when words fail us. In this compassionate and witty new play, six wildly dissimilar runaways from city life embark on a week-long silent retreat. In the overwhelming quiet of the woods, they attempt to abandon technology, observe a vow of silence, and tamp down their natural cravings while being guided by an unseen guru who challenges them to confront internal demons and seek peace. Written by Drama Desk Award-winner Bess Wohl and directed originally by Obie Award-winner Rachel Chavkin, Small Mouth Sounds is a cleverly conceived and sharp observation of the pursuit of wellness and the achingly human, and often frustrating, need to connect.
