If you’re following us on Facebook, then you probably saw that on Monday we announced that we will be featuring members of the RLT family singing covers of songs from musicals that they love in a new series we are calling “Musical Mondays.” This got me thinking about one of my favorite YouTube playlists that I play all the time when I’m working which is full of awesome covers of songs from musicals! Get ready to have your mind blown by these absolutely stunning versions of songs from your favorite musicals.
1.) “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman covered by Citizen Queen
This cover of “Never Enough” from The Greatest Showman combines three of my favorite things: musicals, pop girl groups, and acapella singing. I couldn’t ask for anything more!
2.) “Science Fiction/Double Feature” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show covered by Panic! At the Disco
I’ve been in love with Brendon Urie’s voice since I was a teenager. I’m totally jealous of this crowd who was treated to his haunting rendition of “Science Fiction/Double Feature” from The Rocky Horror Picture Show.
3.) “You’ll Be Back” from Hamilton covered by Callum Howells
I’m going to come out of the closet and say it… I don’t care for Hamilton. Not my cup of tea musically. #SorryNotSorry! But I cannot deny that this boy has some amazing pipes and I can’t help but bop along to this rendition of “You’ll Be Back.”
4.) “Think of Me” from The Phantom of the Opera coved by Margherita Pezzella
I demand a Phantom of the Opera ballet immediately! I don’t think it’s been done yet (if it has, I’ve never crossed paths with it). This video is absolutely beautiful!
5.) “Maybe This Time” from Cabaret covered by Emily Hampshire (Schitt’s Creek)
I could write 1,000 blog posts about how much I love the TV show Schitt’s Creek! If you haven’t been watching it, then I have some serious questions about what you’ve been doing with your life since you can stream seasons 1 – 5 on Netflix right now (the final season is currently airing). In this video, Stevie Budd finally finds her voice as she performs in a community theater production of Cabaret. It is a definitive moment for her character, but actress Emily Hampshire also gives us one of the best renditions of “Maybe This Time” I’ve ever seen!
6.) “Dancing Queen” from Mamma Mia! covered by Juliet Lyan (and friends)
If I had the ability to steal people’s voices like Ursula from The Little Mermaid, then I would totally steal the voices of these three ladies!
7.) “And I Am Telling You” from Dreamgirls covers by Tituss Burgess (and company)
This video might be almost 10 minutes long, but it is worth every second! Tituss Burgess delivers a powerful gender-bent performance of “And I Am Telling You” from the musical Dreamgirls. He gives everything in this performance and, in my humble opinion, the best rendition of the song to date. His performance transcends gender as he bares his heart and soul on the stage.
8.) “Fame (I’m Going to Live Forever)” from FAME covered by Amy Gerheartz & John Roberts
Amy Gerheartz is giving me Evenascence vibes in her cover of “Fame (I’m Going to Live Forever)” from the pop musical FAME!
9.) “Singing in the Rain” from Singin’ in the Rain covered by Juan Nevani Trio
This jazzy rendition of “Singing in the Rain” will definitely put a smile on your face!
10.) “Shallow” from A Star Is Born covered by Max Sheldon and Ben Platt
I want a shot-for-shot remake of A Star is Born starring Max Sheldon and Ben Platt! These two are perfect together!
